Five Tips for a Successful Food Blog

Nowadays, more and more people are thinking of starting their own food blog. Why not? It's a good way to share one's food passions. If you're planning to start a food blog yourself, you may be thinking how on earth to start.

The technical aspect is probably the easiest. But the bigger question is, how do you write a post on a food blog and make it interesting? Let's get started with what draws people's attention. Photographs! Since we're very visual beings, we usually appreciate colors more than any plain chunk of text. More so if these colors are coming from pictures of delicious-looking food from this recipe site. Illustration can also work.

Another thing you can do to make your posts interesting is to make each one tell a story. For instance, if you're blogging about food you tried once at a party and gave a new twist to, tell your readers. Maybe your blogging about a recipe handed down to you from three earlier generations. Tell that story as well. Keep it short but sweet.

When posting about a lifechanging recipe, make sure it's something you yourself have tried and tested. Besides, what's the point of posting something you haven't? What would you say about it? Perhaps you can say you got it from some website and thought it could be nice, but what's interesting about that? Besides, if your readers do try that recipe and it doesn't turn out well, they probably aren't coming back to your site.

And if you did find something online and you've tried it with great results, blog about it but make sure to include your source. Even when you've changed almost the whole recipe, you still need to say who had the original idea. And remember to add a link.

Finally, let them know you're human. If somebody posts a comment, reply sincerely. This is an effective way to build your "fan base" in the world of food blogging.  Sometimes, people who comment are other food bloggers, and sometimes, they're just people who believe in food bloggers. Whatever you want to focus on - pasta, grilled meat, desserts - consistency is key. As previously mentioned, there's no need for long posts. You just need to be consistent with something short and interesting. If you don't post for a month and think you'll still have the same following upon your return, you could end up disappointed. Observe some popular food bloggers these days. You'll surely see how consistent they are. That is a very crucial element that all successful food blogs are made of.
